The
Lead Well®
Coaching method
follows a five stage development process.
The steps are the same whether the Coaching is for
you as an individual or for your team.

1.
Impetus
- In this stage, Coach
and Client identify outcomes, success criteria, and
appropriate measures. We answer two important questions:
1. Why are we here?
2. How will we know when we've accomplished
what we set out to do?
Obtaining good answers to those two questions is essential.
Without them, the Coaching assignment is unlikely
to produce meaningful gains.
Once the rationale and objectives are clear, we create
a Coaching Agreement that outlines the coaching engagement
so that you have a clear idea of both the process
and the outcomes.

2.
Discovery
- Using myriad data collection
methods, your Coach assists you with a multidimensional
assessment of your individual strengths.
The tools we might use include:
- Validated instruments
to gauge your personal work style and individual
strengths;
- Customized 360-degree feedback surveys
and/or interviews with your key constituents;
- Time journals
- Guided personal reflections and meaningful exercises
The goal: To see yourself afresh through many
lenses as a prelude to undertaking new actions
in order to yield new results.

The better you understand who you are today, the
faster you can evolve into whom you'd like to become.

- 3.
Development Planning
- Working with tools and
techniques provided by your Coach, you set specific,
appropriate goals for your development (or that of
the Team).
During this part of the process, you identify:
- Methods & techniques to
employ
- Milestones for progress
- Resources to draw on
- Barriers to overcome

4. Action & Practice
- In this phase, you actually implement some new skills
and behaviors. By adopting new methods and habits,
you'll develop the enhanced competence and
produce the improved results you're seeking.

5. Progress Checks &
Refinement
- Lasting improvement comes from
obtainingand acting onhonest feedback
about performance. By assessing your progress,
you can build on it and improve even more!
Development is a self-reinforcing, self-perpetuating
habit that continues to serve you long after the formal
coaching engagement is over.
